"I'm glad the Hospital is trying to be so progressive , this is a major step forward"

About: Rampton Hospital

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

This is some feedback that has been received from a patient from the Mental Health Services Directorate at Rampton Hospital following them being asked to be part of a patient interview panel for Team Leader posts across the hospital.

"I throughly enjoyed the interview process, I saw it as a chance to give back to my fellow patients and help improve their lives. I was glad to be chosen, as I now have the job skills to sit in any interview myself. I'm glad the Hospital is trying to be so progressive, this is a major step forward. I have a high regard for my fellow panellists, they had the utmost professionalism at all times, I could not have asked for more from them. "

Dear Marzi8,

Thank you for posting this feedback on behalf of the patient. Please could you pass this message of thanks on to them for us.

I am delighted that you found the interviewing an enjoyable process and that you worked so well and professionally with the rest of the panel. I am also very pleased to hear that you feel it has helped provide you with skills to enable you to take forward when it comes to being interviewed yourself.

I actually run the Involvement Interview Team training sessions myself along with my colleague, Nigel Groves and some of our service user and carer volunteers from the Involvement Centres.

It is an excellent, very rewarding and beneficial core project we operate throughout Involvement and gives the opportunity for service users, carers and volunteers to be a part of the interviewing processes when recruiting for staff across the Trust.

We run regular training sessions for this and also allocate time to spend with panel members prior to interviews to support them with interviewing skills, preparing questions to be asked at interview and the interview procedures and processes.

I am so pleased you had such a positive experience of being on one of our interview panels and I would like to thank you greatly for the time and effort you provided to this. Without the participation of our service users, carers and volunteers, we would not be able to run the scheme, therefore not be able to involve, hear the voices and choices of the people within our Trust services.

Many thanks once again and I hope future interview panels you may sit on will be just as enjoyable for you.

Many thanks for taking the time to share this, as a hospital and as a Trust we are committed to continuing to support service user invovlement in the recruitment process, and a training program for service users is ongoing.

My own recent involvement in recruitment with service users has been a positive experience, and candidates attending for interview told me it was a valuable experience for them also.

Many thanks for your commitment to ensuring that the staff that we employ are service user and recovery focussed.
