Bilateral wrist problems since 02/2009.Moved a lot with uni,so I saw various medical staff in Hartlepool,Bradford&Manchester.In 2010 StudentFinanceEngland told me about an operation to cut back the affected tendon (tendon release).In Bradford everyone maintained it was RepetitiveStrainInjury and all I could do was pain medicate&go to physio (which made it worse).In 2010 I became allergic to anti-inflammatories.I was told in 5/2013 in Mancs that there was 'no evidence of anything wrong with' me.I went for a 2nd opinion,who actually did their jobs properly&did an MRI scan which confirmed Flexor Carpi Radialis Tendinopathy&a cyst.I had a cortisone injection in 3/2014 which worked for 3 months before wearing off,I was told there was nothing else that could be done.Both Brad and Manc services denied the existence of any operation. I transferred care to HPool in 8/2014 after everyone else refused to help me.The consultant here was great at 1st:very knowledgeable,seemingly experienced,caring,warm&understanding.They operated on my worst,left wrist in 3/2015 (the operation everyone else said didn't exist)&my right wrist will be operated on later this month.Things were great,until I asked for a letter of support to give to the university, because I was struggling to get time off from my PhD.They wrote a line in the letter portraying me as a liar:'it's more bothersome than disabling.' I had a meeting with them 04/06/2015 to discuss my recovery&book the 2nd op,as well as to discuss the letter,during which they insisted I was not disabled and could return to uni to type hundreds of thousands of words in thesis drafts. During the meeting,they never enquired about my wellbeing,my wrist or the 2nd op&was only concerned with the letter to my uni.They insisted I wasn't disabled.In tears,I explained that I was in absolute agony with my right wrist,&that my left wrist took 8 weeks from the op to get to the stage it was,which was 80% better than pre-op.I advised I still get some aches and pains when typing,but that my right wrist was still effectively crippled.I advised I couldn't type,grip,write,peel vegetables or do simple things like wipe my glasses lenses,without extreme pain.I explained I was on 8 dihydrocodeine¶cetamol per day with no relief.They didn't care.They insisted that I'm not disabled and can work.Pain doesn't count. The Govt., Dept.,of Work&Pensions&Student Finance all consider tendinopathy/tendonitis/writers cramp/RSI as a disability&an industrial injury.They sarcastically said 'get them to sign you off then.' I'm already signed off,I just thought a letter from them would be more useful.I've had a medical and been approved for industrial disablement/injury.They have no clue about policy or what's permitted as a disability.I might lose my PhD funding.Heartless&cruel.
