"our experience of the childrens ward"

About: Frimley Park Hospital (Frimley)

My son had his first experience of hospital recently when he came in for day surgery. The staff were great with him right from our arrival, asking him questions about his teddy and showing us to the play room. The doctors and nurses explained everything that was going to happen and answered all of my questions. I was allowed to stay with my son until the anesthetic sent him to sleep. The staff had explained to me that he may be quite upset and agitated when he woke up. I could actually hear him screaming from outside the recovery room but it was only a few minutes before i was allowed in and instructed to get straight up on the bed and lay with my son - this worked almost immediately and he calmed down and went to sleep. Back on the ward our lovely nurse (who was an agency nurse but i wouldn't have guessed that had they not told me) was very attentive and checked on my son regularly. The staff made every test and observation more like a game and explained everything to us appropriately. Within two hours my son was back to his normal self eating his tea - the staff offered me a dinner as well which i thought was a really lovely gesture. All in all i was very impressed with the staff, who are obviously very busy day to day, but took the time to look after my son so well. I am sure that he would have no issues if he did have to go in to hospital again Many thanks
