I self referred just after 2 pm on Wed 3 June after an accident at home in which had injured my elbow exposing the bone. I was lucky as there was no queue at Reception. I was immediately seen by a nurse and given a temporary dressing and pain killers, they were reassuring and friendly and, once I was in the waiting area to see a doctor, they came at regular intervals to check I was OK. The doctor and consultant I saw were both gentle and involved me in discussion about treatment needed and I was referred for an x-ray. After the x-ray had established no bones broken the consultant stitched me up, prescribed anti-biotics and pain killers and made sure I felt fit to leave to queue at the pharmacy. I felt treated with care, sensitivity, dignity and respect throughout this experience. Yes,, I was at the hospital for three hours.but I did not mind the waits. I could see everyone working as a harmonious team which helped maintain a calm atmosphere. I imagine that in much busier periods the staff must come under a lot of pressure, but I was struck by the professionalism of everyrone I encountered that afternoon. Thanks to all who looked after me, I am feeling much better ...
