Eight hours in A and E with my mother. Filthy. Disinterested. Pathetic. One doctor helpful. When Mum needed moving on the uncomfortable bed, I asked the "Sister" not to grab my mother's legs by her ankles (where ulceration was extreme), so they did. My perfectly mentally able mother was placed in a geriatric madhouse for one week and a further week in a dimmed side room due to NHS policy on MRSA and VRE while she waited for a bed in Countess of Chester. Her deterioration was met with existential indifference by most staff. Establishing eye contact with any member of staff in this hospital was extremely difficult. A forced meeting with Mum's Ward consultant provided some assurance but the week's wait for a bed was rather disturbing. I eventually forced some action via higher authority. My Mum gave the NHS nearly half her working life? and what I saw and experienced in this hole of a hospital was pretty alarming.
