As a patient of west wing, I can confidential say that while there are a couple of staff that seem caring, committed and truly concerned about the welfare, rights and treatment of their patient's, they are unfortunately in the minority. Frequently, patients are left to settle disputes between themselves with little or no input from the majority of staff and where they do get involved it is with an arrogance and level of disdain more common in a dictatorship. This ward should offer a high level understanding and tolerance due to the nature of the patient's, and instead they treat them with contempt at worst and like children at best. I was lead to believe that Mental Health Centres, such as this, would provide a safe and comfortable environment in which patient's would receive the care and treatment needed to recover. Unfortunately the west wing of the George Bryan Center more closely resembles a ghetto of old rather than a modern facility for the treatment of mental illnesses. During my stay I had two consultation session's, no treatment plan, no counselling, very little interaction from staff and have been witness to some extremely unprofessional remarks and actions. A complaint will, of course, be made to PALS, the CQC and my local MP.
