"Update of incident in Children’s ..."

About: Hillingdon Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

Update of incident in Children’s A&E on Saturday 9th April, please see John & Sarah’s previous comment.

Since the incident on that day I feel I must update my comment to let people know what’s happened since.

What could be improved

I cannot fault the hospitals response to this incident. I had a phone call from the hospital the day after the incident to assure me the incident was being taken extremely seriously and there would be a thorough investigation.

I have since had regular communication from the hospital keeping me up to date with what’s happening and I’ve also had a meeting with 5 members of the trust. I feel the hospital has done as much as they can to get to the bottom of this and I am now confident this will not happen again.

The toilets in the Children’s A&E were also checked and cleaned properly after the incident and are thoroughly cleaned every hour.

I believe this was an isolated incident caused only by the irresponsibility of one person (the cleaner in question). She is currently suspended. You can rest assured I’ll be watching closely to see the outcome and what (if any) action will be taken against her. In the mean time I want to assure people that the cleanliness of Hillingdon hospital and the team who oversee it, are as good as they can be and the hospital is clean and safe for us to use.

So much hard work goes into infection control at Hillingdon and recent statistics show that infections are down at Hillingdon. It is vital that patients and visitors to the hospital also take infection seriously i.e., always wash your hands and use the alcohol hand scrub when entering or leaving any area of the hospital. Also if you see something you feel is wrong you must let the hospital know about it because as I said before, the hospital take infection control very seriously and are very quick and thorough in dealing with the problem.

Anything else?

I have a meeting next week with Sodexo (the company who currently has the cleaning contract at Hillingdon) to see what they have to say and I will update again on the outcome of that meeting.

As for the hospital itself I could not have asked of any more than what they have done and I thank them for dealing with this so fast.

Both I and my partner are now confident to go Hillingdon hospital again with our kids and we would recommend the hospital.

Thanks for reading.

John & Sarah.
