"Confused by layout on first visit"

About: Ipswich Hospital

(as the patient),

I found the whole lay-out very confusing. The main outpatients entrance is not clearly laid out. There have been portakabins erected in the way, so one is not drawn to the main entrance.

People coming to a hospital are usually stressed because of the reason they are going there. Directions need to be clear and simple. There is too much to take in if you are feeling anxious.

I don't know the answer but surely there are people who specialise in signage.

Good afternoon Chrissie,

Thank you ever so much for your feedback. Way finding is of the utmost importance to us here at Ipswich Hospital and we are aware that we still have a long way to go before we will be satisfied that every patient that walks into our premises will know exactly where they are to go.

We continuously liaise with our network of User groups to tackle the issue of signage and our estates team are always looking at ways in which it can be improved.

We are currently in the early stages of redesigning our Outpatients department with signage, directions and colour coding of hallways etc. being at the very top of the agenda.

We are also very lucky to have an abundance of 'meet and greet' volunteers who are based at the Outpatients reception and are always more than happy to point you in the right direction for your appointment.

We would really appreciate your insight on this, so if you are interested in helping to shape our Outpatients department, and help us to improve our current signage I would really like to hear from you, please feel free to contact me on dominic.mundy@ipswichhospital.nhs.uk or 01473 702 536.

Thanks again for your time.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Dominic Mundy
