"Shocking delays for dislocated arm and broken..."

I arrived at the hospital in severe pain was x-rayed and told I had broken the head of the humerus in four pieces. I was sent home with a folloow up appointment for the following day with paracetamol and codine tablets with a makeshift sling made from a bandage so my arm was hanging. In agony we returned the following day to actually find out that not only was it broken it was also dislocated. I asked for stronger pain killers and was given tramadol tablets which in turn made me even more ill. Eventually after 8 days of my arm hanging by muscle and ligament I went in for the operation to fix it back together. I got to the waiting area for theatre to be sent back to the ward as they had an emergency ! the emergency had nothing wrong with him even though he arrived by helecopter and never even went to theatre. I was in a terrible state having had no pain relief virtually since the accident and ended up very distressed. My husband came to get me as I rang in tears and he told the surgeon this was not acceptable and it was negligent. Suddenly I was given morphine pain relief and was promised first slot in the morning. The surgeon did and excellent job of the repair I can not fault that at all. Straight after theatre the pain was reduced by half to what it had been before. That said this injury was in the surgeons words devastating and could have resulted in disability so why was it not tended too earlier I should not have been left for 8 days with my arm hanging out of its socket. So would I recommend anyone no not if they are left as long as I was.
