I went in with a suspected broken ankle. I was seen almost immediately by warm and efficient nursing staff. The nurses also went the extra mile to reassure me and by providing me with tea and a sandwich whilst I waited for the fracture clinic later that afternoon. I was intrigued to find myself being seen by my first hospital consultant, who unfortunately had a very different approach to the nurses; disinterested, dismissive, with barely any eye contact and scant advise as how best to look after a broken ankle. I felt rushed along and ill-prepared. However, the nurses again were wonderful and organised a taxi to take me home.
