"Didn't think they'd be this bad!"

About: Tameside General Hospital

We arrived by ambulance to this hospital. Once admitted we was given a bed in the corridor! And left for 2 hours waiting with nobody coming to see us or give us any information. There was no where for me to sit with my partner whilst he was on the stretcher I had to remain stood or perched on the edge of the stretcher. The staff we're really nice and friendly that did see us however, and due to the cafe been closed a member of staff did get me a coffee as the vending machine coffees were absolutely terrible tasting. Once we eventually was taken to a room there was no bed in the room just 2 chairs and the room hadn't been cleaned. There was needle lids and all sorts on the floor in the room. The "deep clean" sheet hadn't been filled out despite it been today's date it was due. After another hour we were eventually discharged

We are really sorry you have had cause to raise these concerns. This is not the standard of care expected by the staff in the department.

On days with increased number of patient’s corridor waits do occur. This should have been explained to you and your partner.

Refreshments should be routinely offered to patients and relatives. I can only apologies that this did not happen during your visit.

The level of cleanliness you report is not acceptable and I will bring this to the attention of the clinical leads for all shifts.

Once again my sincere apologies for the lack of communication and poor experience you and your partner received.

If you would like to speak to someone regarding this please contact Head of Nursing for A&E Alice Baxter on 0161 922 5199 or Alice.Baxter@tgh.nhs.uk

We want to know more about our services from the point of view of those who received them – what was good, bad, what could be improved, what should be changed. Want to know more about what’s involved? Please contact John Goodenough, Director of Nursing at
