"Emergency Admission- 24/05/2015"

About: Dorset County Hospital

Whilst staying at a local hotel near to Dorchester I started having problems with my breathing on the afternoon of the 24th May. We went back to the hotel to rest but found that after having a sleep I was still very concerned with my breathing. My husband took me to the Emergency Admissions in Dorchester and explained that I had cancer and was awaiting an appointment for Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy at my local hospital. (Nottingham). From that moment on the service and care were wonderful, the emergency Department helped me to calm down and straight away gave me oxygen and pain relief. they transferred me to the Oncology Department in the early hours of 25th May. They checked for blood clots and heart problems and all the way throughout these procedures I was kept informed as to why these tests were being done. I was discharged at approximately 5pm on the 25th May once we had received the results and my breathing was controlled. I had to contact you to highly praise all of the staff in Accident & Emergency and the Oncology Ward for there excellent care. Thank you so much. Loraine Ball.

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience with us, I will make sure the Emergency Department team and Fortuneswell staff hear how much you appreciated the care you received at our Hospital. It can be very frightening coming into hospital, especially with breathing difficulties, so I was pleased to read that everything was so well explained to you. I hope your chemotherapy and radiotherapy are going well in Nottingham and that you are not experiencing too many side effects from the treatment. I am grateful to you for taking the time to share your feedback, it will be immensely appreciated. Best wishes, Alison Tong, Director of Nursing, Dorset County Hospital
