After an accident at work involving a Christmas tree being being jabbed in my eye many years ago I was left with a very aggressive infection. I spent many years attending a certain hospital that only ever prescribed drops and ointment and every time I was taken off them the infection came back. I asked the consultant on numerous occasions if there was a better way and was always told it will be alright. By now the sight in the infected eye was no better than trying to look through frosted glass. After a lot of pain and the white of my eye turning blood red I ended up in a and e and was seen by an opthalmologist who told me about a consultant eye surgeon at the princess Diana and would I like to be referred to see them. This was the turning point for me the consultant they referred to, told me at the beginning that they could fix it but it would be a long job.Treatment started with drops and 2 tablets a day to bring the infection under control. I had never been offered this treatment before and it worked brilliantly after many years I am still free of infection.I was operated on and given a corneal graft then later on two more operations for a new lens and adjustment I now have 20- 20 vision.I cannot thank the surgeon and team enough they are the best.It has been a long road but we got there in the end.
