I gave birth earlier this month. Because this was our first baby we decided to book a private delivery at the hospital and were initially very anxious to learn that the private obstetrics were to be closed and our planned delivery cancelled. However, we needn't have worried because the level of care we received with the NHS was excellent. I had an epidural which worked perfectly. My midwife was wonderful and stayed with us throughout. They kept me topped up so that I felt no pain at all! Our baby was a little slow to come out and the heartbeat dropped slightly-within seconds the room was filled with a team led by the consultant who was fantastic! They took charge of the situation calmly and efficiently and we soon had our beautiful baby boy. We were so impressed with how the various members of staff co-ordinated our care and worked together. I had to stay over and was concerned about looking after the baby when my husband went home, but the night team were very supportive and always on hand to help. We had such a positive experience that we just wanted to give credit where it's due and to say a big thank you to the team.
