"disgusting"

About: The Maidstone Hospital

I was taken in by ambulance as I had been pushed down some steps and was in agony with my ankle and foot. The ambulance crew arrived made me hop to the ambulance. I was given gas and air and apologised profusely for calling an ambulance for just a foot injury as the ambulance crew made me feel as though I was wasting their time. On arrival at Maidstone I was sat in a waiting area which was in a corridor. There was another young man there who had blood taken in front of me! I was then taken to x ray and pushed back to the waiting area where there was another young man who had been fighting in a nightclub and was being loud and sat there playing with a lighter. I was then approached by a trained nurse and a care worker telling me that there was no breaks so the care worker put a support boot on my foot gave me some crutches and was told to stand on the foot and use it as much as possible. I almost fainted with the pain. This all took place in the corridor in front of these other people. I was then taken to reception to wait for my lift and told I had to make an appointment at the fracture clinic when it was open. One of the young men who had his blood taken came to find me to check I was OK as He felt it was disgusting how I was treated.I went home and was in agony all night even after taking the painkillers I had been given. The next morning my Partner took me to Pembury where it was a completely different story. I was treated with respect and dignity.I was given pain relief straight away put in a single room. The Nurse Practitioner was amazing. He looked at my xrays and said he wanted me have a CT scan as he was positive that there was more than one break. The CT scan confirmed this. The orthopaedic reg came down and my ankle and foot was put in plaster and I was offered a bed to stay in if I wanted to control the pain and reduce the swelling. I was given Oramorph to bring home and fragmin injections plus an appt at the fracture clinic. At 54 years of age my treatment at Pembury was far more fitting than that at Maidstone where I was treated like a drunken youth from a nightclub!!!!!

Dear Diane Thank you for taking the time to write a review regarding your care and treatment at both Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells Hospitals. We are very sorry that your experience was so different at each hospital's accident and emergency department and that your treatment at Maidstone was carried out in front of other patients, rather than in a private cubicle. If you would like us to look into this further, please contact the PALS office at mtw-tr.palsoffice@nhs.net. We are glad to learn that you had a more positive experience at Tunbridge Wells and hope that you are recovering well. With kind regards, the PALS team.
