"Fantastic staff at Gartnaval General Ward 2a"

About: Western Infirmary/Gartnavel General / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I attended Gartnaval General today as a day patient to have a small procedure carried out on my hand.

Being a "wee fearty" I was rather nervous and anxious, however the staff were amazing and reassured me at every step, everyone I encountered was genuinely helpful and cheerful.

I would like to thank all of them, from the admissions lady, the ward staff (gold stars deserved), the cleaning staff, the porters (Alan and the chap who has recently had a knee replacement whose name now escapes me ) the surgeons and the theatre staff, in particular Ian who held my hand during the procedure when my nerves got the better of me and who listened to my nervous ramblings.

Too much criticism is aimed at the NHS and sometime we forget how lucky we are to have this precious service and the wonderful people who do such an amazing job, often under so much pressure.

Thank you again to all of you, you really do, do a fantastic job!

I work in a small team in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde which seeks to involve patients and carers in the work of the NHS. The biggest part of my role is in managing feedback projects across the Board area, one of which is Patient Opinion. It is my job to give our patients and carers the opportunity to give us feedback, and to make sure that this is passed to the right people to help us improve the services we provide.

Dear DebzB,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write to us about your recent experience in Gartnavel. Coming into hospital can be quite nerve-wracking for a lot of people, and as you have shown, it is our staff that can make a world of difference to someone who is anxious. It is heartening to see that every member of this team made such an effort to make you feel relaxed and comfortable, and I am sure they will appreciate your kind comments.

I hope you have recovered well from your procedure and thank you again for sharing your experience.

Best Wishes,

Lorna
