What I liked

My 11 year old son was suffering from anaphalaxis after eating something at a party. The paramedics and ambulance arrived very quickly, within minutes of our call. The ambulance crew were wonderfull. There manner with my son and me was so reassuring and I found them very responsive to my sons needs.

What could be improved

After my son was shown to a bed and his blood pressure checked and a few questions asked by one of the nurses, that was the last time that we were spoken to for hours before I finally had to ask what if my son was going to be kept in overnight or not. The nurses and doctor sat with their backs to me and my son and none of them spoke to us even after the room had emptied of other patients. I felt ignored and disrespected. I could see that the doctor was busy completing case notes for the patients he had seen previously but the 2 nurses sat there doing nothing. At one stage one of them even took out a mgazine to read. I was so outraged that they could not even come over to explain when my son would be seen by a doctor or even to ask how he was doing. Do nurses not talk to patients anymore unless they are treating them? There were people in the main waiting area who kept comming in to see why no-one was attendign to them. I thought it would have been courteous of the nurses to explain the situation and interact with the kids while they were waiting for doctor.
