The nurse who looked after my mother on Amyand Ward for about 20 minutes on her admission.

What could be improved

The nurse in the resusc room was extremely rude to my family. My mother aged 77 was brought in by ambulance at around 3.45pm on Sunday afternoon suffering from pneumonia. We were waiting outside to find out what was wrong with her. We had no idea we were not supposed to wait outside the resusc area. Especially since we were told to sit on the chairs provided by the ambulance staff! The nurse who came out was extremely rude to both myself and my sister. Maybe she should have put herself in our shoes and had a little compassion. Also when the night shift staff came on she began cheering and making unnecessary comments about how hard her day had been. We all appreciate how hard medical staff work and are grateful for their help. But this woman needs to rethink her career path if this is how she behaves.

I really was upset that you put my mother on a male ward. She is the only female there and you have promised to move her as soon as possible. This is just not good enough. My mother was extremely stressed already and this just added to her discomfort.

Also, I have now spent the best part of FOUR hours this morning trying to get through to the ward to find out how my mother is. The lines are constatntly engaged and there is no way of getting through. It's no good paying for the phone by Mums bed as she wouldn't hear it ringing.

My mother will be with you for the next few days and I will monitor things very closely. I will update my comments as I think fit.
