Was referred to A&E by the emergency GP after my partner had seen him with bad back and chest pain. the department did look busy ( but you can judge on face value) it was extremely under staff, there was no sense of urgency. We waited an hour for triage but ended up waiting 5.5hrs for investigation ( x-ray,ecg and bloods). Pain relief my partner did get wore off so he was sitting in there in agony. There was 4 patients in minors all waiting 5 plus hours. We could sit any longer and had no choice to go home and seek pain relief from home (I'm a nurse myself and understand the pressures of A&E but this was a joke) even when informing the nurse we need to go ( first time we saw some in the 5.5hrs waiting or even communicated to us) we haven't had pain relief, he was thirsty ( no water for patients waiting by the way) tired and distressed she just shrugged her shoulders at me. Next day bank holiday Monday phoned A&E to see if we could get results or if they where even back, guess what they weren't ready! They have had 12hrs to investigate, would we still be there?? my partners condition isn't any better, seems to be getting worst. Just lack of compassion, urgency and patient care. Waiting would be so bad if the simply needs are met like water, pain relief and communication. So very disappointed ??
