I think the staff were lovely who worked on the kinder ward however at night there was often bank staff on and I think that this meant the regular night staff had to go above and beyond. I was treated on the kinver ward and every two weeks they meet to discuss your care but it's very much led by the consultant who mainly talked about your weight chart. I personally felt it was very much food focused and if you were thinking of admitting yourself then it is a place to go to restore weight but that is the sheer purpose of the place. They are there like any other hospital to mainly monitor physical health, e.g. Weight, Ecg's & bloods. Everything focused upon gaining weight and what you ate rather and you were expected to deal with the feelings around this yourself really, the staff were nice and if you cried they would ask how you were. I think to make the service even better there needs to be something to help people deal with all the negative emotions and feelings eating brings. Although I feel more therapy/emotional support is needed, I have to say the staff worked hard and were always friendly and I can appreciate its a difficult environment because unlike most hospitals people didn't want to be there. The only other thing that comes to mind is while I was there they hired a new dietician who was very clearly underweight and this made many of the patients feel uncomfortable. However I appreciate because of equal opportunities if she is good at their job then there isn't a lot the ward can do about it but I do wonder if they would be better on a different ward as it's hard to be told to eat more and gain weight from someone lighter than yourself.
