"Lack of advice following surgery"

About: St George's Hospital (Tooting) (London)

Husband had tonsillectomy & within 3 days had horrible infection resulting in return trip to GP. Poor advice from ENT department/surgical ward on what to look out for, only given strong painkillers (large tablets that were difficult to swallow - soluble better?), no advice given on eating & drinking, no antibiotics. Poor after care advice. I know that a busy hospital considers small ops like this routine but they are not for the patients. Leaflets or discharge talks would be recommended.

We are sorry to read of your experience and dissatisfaction with the care and communication your husband received and would encourage your huband to contact the PALS department at St. George’s Hospital if you have not already done so. You can talk to the Patient Advice and Liaison Service about your experience and further investigation can take place, pals@stgeorges.nhs.uk or on 020 8725 2453. Your comments will be sent to the management of ENT.
