I had a problem with my eye for which I planned to go to the GP. However after running through the symptoms on the NHS Choices website I was advised with big red letters to go to A&E immediately. I didn't do that, I went the following day. Upon arriving I mentioned this and was told "it always says that" and got the impression that the advice given on the website is always over cautious. This was enforced by the doctor who I saw who stated "websites say a lot of things" - I reiterated that it was the NHS website and got "even them". I left with the impression that they felt that I was wasting their time by attending A&E. I've never been to A&E in my adult life and only went there on the advice of the NHS website. I'm not the sort of person to rush to the doctor for every little thing. So the question here is - should the advice on NHS Choices be trusted? Or should I always go and see my GP in the future? It's fortunate that I was able to make my own way there, I think a lot of people would have called for an ambulance. I'd like to point out that every other aspect of my care yesterday was great. The hospital was clean and comfortable and I was treated very quickly. The staff were fantastic particularly the nurse who took on my case.
