"Disgraceful"

About: Pinderfields General Hospital

My father-in-law was admitted through A and E to ward 43 and I am sorry to say that the care is disgraceful. He was taken for a scan and when he complained about being 'man handled' he was told to stop being a 'baby'. When medication is given it is 'rammed' into his mouth. They have a food and drink chart which is hardly ever filled in. When he presses his buzzer for help to go to the toilet nobody comes so now he is wetting himself. He barely eats and is given no assistance so he is rapidly losing weight and getting weaker by the day. In the 8 days he has been in hospital he has been showered twice and that was by his son. He is still of sane mind so knows exactly what is going on but I think that will soon change as he just sits staring at the walls with no conversation until he has visitors. The food is inedible and drinks are always cold. I thought that people went into hospital to get better, the sooner they get better the sooner they get out. He is worse now than when he went in. I don't blame the nurses as most of them are doing their best but they are so overworked and short staffed they just don't have the time to care. It is so heart breaking to see him loosing his dignity. He is an intelligent man with a very placid nature but as the days go on he is changing, he is becoming angry and aggravated. This isn't due to his age or condition, it is due to boredom, lack of conversation and loss of dignity, anyone would go 'mad' in this situation.
