"Urgent referral for my son"

About: Southampton General Hospital

My son has been in agony since 23rd April after 6 appointments with GP chasing hospital appointment, asking for pain relief and an urgent appointment. The appointment has come through on the 6th July. After another visit to GP practice asking for referral to the Emergency Paediatric Assessment Clinic at Southampton General Hospital which was asked today - the Consultant advised that although my son (aged 10) is in agony that is acceptable but is not an emergency so they will not see him. He has to wait for referral which the earliest is 6th July. How is this acceptable for a young child to be in excruitating pain - looking into payment for private care now to try and get my son treated and his medical issue resolved. Disgusted with the treatment received with the NHS and the length of time it is taking for a child to be seen.
