"Daytime care was exemplary. Night time less so"

About: Pilgrim Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

Sadly, we found out at our 12 week scan that I was going through a miscarriage. The sonographer (I think her name was Charlotte) was incredibly compassionate and sensitive, and gave us time to ask questions and to go through what had happened. We then had to visit M2 ward then next day to begin the medical management. We saw a nurse called Laura on that morning. Again she was incredibly kind and helpful and thoroughly explained everything we needed to know at the point. We then returned to M2 ward on the Friday for treatment. This was a long, exhausting and very emotional day for us, yet at every step of the way had brilliant care from the nurses on the ward. They were so caring and supportive and at no point did I feel like I was just another statistic of miscarriage. I wish I could name these nurses, but I have forgotten their names sorry (there were quite a few throughout the day); I do wish to thank them.

I cannot fault the care we received during the day and going into the evening. However, we had to stay in overnight and the care and compassion wasn’t quite the same. The nurses who were on the night shift didn’t seem to be aware of what I had to do as part of the treatment process. But I do not wish this to detract from the fantastic care I received earlier in the day. The doctor I saw the following morning was also really helpful and at no point, did we feel rushed to make decisions, so thank you to him as well.

We had to return the following Tuesday for a second scan and saw the same sonographer again, who was equally as kind and compassionate. We also had support from a nurse who I think was called Simone from M2 ward, and I wish to thank her for her kindness.

I hope that I never have to return to the Pilgrim for the same reasons, but in the event that I do, I will be confident that I will be in the best care possible. Thank you.
