"Care and compassion"

About: King George Hospital

Adult day unit registrar patronises patients using terms like water pipe and willy pipe - also talks very loudly and slowly as if all patients are mentally incapable. But we are educated and do understand terms of more than one syllable so don't condescend. Nurse/sister refuses ambulance transport home for patient with cancer of the spine, pelvis, rib and skull, prostate and bladder because he can walk. This despite all hospital appointments prior to this having transport organised by the patient's GP as he cannot safely get in and out of a normal car.

Thank you for leaving your comment on NHS Choices. I am sorry that you felt the language used by our staff was unsuitable. Please be assured that this wouldn’t be our staff’s intention to cause upset. However if you could provide further information, please contact me through our PALS team on 01708 435 454 or email PALS@bhrhospitals.nhs.uk so that this can be looked into. Yours sincerely Wendy Matthews Interim Chief Nurse
