About: Southmead Hospital

The car parking here is horrendous, i have a disabled mother, who has a blue badge but all areas were taken! Had to do quite a walk to get her there. A lot of wasted space within the hospital. What is the idea of the clock on the celing when no one can worko out how to tell the time, i believe this cost thousands, what was wrong with a normal large clock on the wall... the money could have been far better spent on staffing levels atc. This is the worst hospital i have ever been in, totally disorganised, a nightmare to navigate, the gate system seems crazy, its not an airport its a hospital, you get sent to a gate, arrive there and are then told you have to go to another gate, go to the other gate and they tell you to go back to the original one!! Please get your act together, instead of wasting money in fine things such as sculptures, crazy clocks people playing harps, the money should have been spent on the necessities of a hospital, it doesnt need glamourising, we dont go there for good looking items, we go there for health reasons.

Dear Anonymous – thank you for taking the time and trouble to post the details of your experience at Southmead Hospital. I was very sorry to learn of the trouble you had parking in the blue badge area. The layout at the main entrance at the moment is not how it is planned to be in the long term. We have completed Phase 1 of the Brunel building and when Phase 2 is finished, in the summer of 2016, then a new patient and visitor multi-storey car park will be built enabling patients and visitors to enter the Brunel building directly from the car park and arrive next door to the main reception desk. This will also simplify the journey from the main entrance to the Southmead site and will provide many more blue badge spaces directly next to the access to the main Brunel building. If you experience parking problems again before completion of the second phase please ring 0117 414 3334, and the staff will try and assist you to find a free space. The clock was funded by the arts council as an art installation and so did not affect the money available for staffing. Other clocks are being placed around the hospital and each patient room has a clock. I am sorry we have not met your expectations in relation to the design of the building but can report that we do have lots of compliments about the design. I do hope you see an improvement in parking in proximity to the hospital and access when the building programme is complete in summer 2016 and hope you can bear with us until then. Kind regards - Steve Sykes Advice and Complaints Team
