"AAU Gate 12 - very curt overworked staff"

About: Pinderfields General Hospital

After spending 7 hours in A&E we were told my husband would be moved to the AAU to have a lumbar puncture and we were taken there at 16:30. A nurse popped their head around the door and said they would be with us soon but, after an hour I went to the desk to ask what was going on and was told it was up to the consultant when the LP would happen and they would get to us when they could, they then said they had 10 patients to deal with and not just my husband - so why on earth did they say they would be with us soon when they probably knew they wouldn't. We were treated pretty well in A & E as they were also very busy but after being told he needed a lumbar puncture it was over two hours when I went to ask what was happening, they said he needed admitting to a ward for the lumbar puncture which would happen in the afternoon then he could go home. 45 mins later he was moved to AAU Gate 12. We were seen by the consultant at 17:35 who said the LP would happen this evening or in the morning so he had to stay overnight. The LP has still not been done but, at least people are speaking to him now. My point is that the nurses are over worked and most of them are kind and apologetic but this unfortunately does not apply to them all - I don't know how long this nurse had been on duty and was maybe at the end of their tether but if they cannot be more polite to worried relatives then I am afraid they are in the wrong job.
