"Looking for nurses"

About: Drumchapel Hospital / Elderly Care

(as a carer),

One evening within Drumchapel Hospital Cumbrae Ward I was sitting with a number of relatives and my mum and heard a patient screaming "help" I waited a bit and then walked into the TV room and the patient said she needed help as she was not mobile and needed the toilet. I could not find any nurses anywhere. After about 30 mins the poor woman was still shouting for help. and again I went looking for a nurse and found one sitting partially hidden behind a patients curtain reading a magazine and eating a box of chocolates. When I seen the nurse they just stood up and ran to help the patient but was clearly hearing the same screaming that I heard. On another evening the situation was similar and again I could not find a nurse until I walked out the front doors and there was a group of nurses all smoking within the hospital grounds and laughing loudly, oblivious to the shouts for help coming from the patients.
