"MidFoot Fusion"

About: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital

Back in 2013 i went to A&E is excruciating pain & unable to walk on my foot after falling down a large curb. When i was eventually seen and taken round to A&E xray, the person who xrayed my foot was so horrendous and was pushing and moving my foot for the xray pictures without any consideration of me being in tears & that they were playing a huge part in making me cry in agony. Once they had finished pulling my very swollen and painful foot about, i was taken back to A&E for them to basically tell me "oh its just sprained" go home and keep it up with plenty of frozen veg on it to take the swelling down (no pain relief or crutches were given) at any point. The next day my friend told me that she was taking me back up there as i had been in tears even trying to get to the toilet at home by crawling on my hands and knees. Once we arrived and waited for a few hours i was eventually seen. Another consultant had looked again at my xray scan from the previous evening and i was told yet again the same thing and this time was given 5mg of liquid morphine and some crutches to go home with. About 3 weeks later my foot was still the size of big foots foot & was still causing me excruciating pain so i went to my Drs surgery who then called A&E and the person at the other end of the phone had told my dr that it was just a sprain and nothing else and that she would even get 3 more consultants to check over my xray while my dr was on the phone. After a couple of minutes my dr was still told the same thing " its a sprain" but they had suggested that i come in to A& E for 6 sessions of their physio to which i did and all of the 6 sessions i had i sat there for about 30min each time while this odd looking machine that was placed over my bad foot rotated around it. These sessions did nothing for my pain and i went back to my gp and told them i am still in constant agony and i couldn't walk with my foot flat normally on the floor, i could only walk on the outside edge of my right foot, which still was very painful for me but the only way i was able to get around & having 2 small children i needed my mobility. Next i saw a surgeon in the fracture clinic. The surgeon told me that i had caused severe damage to my foot when i fell down that curb and that A&E should of put me in a cast non weight bearing for 2 weeks, if they hadn't of missed it on my xrays & casted me i would of been fine. The surgeon decided they were going to leave my foot the way it was for another 2years so i went mad & with their grumpy attitude they sent me bk to xray but this time i was standing, so it showed all the damage and the spacing in between my bones, that A&E had missed due to me being sat down when xrayed!! The surgeon then said to me i defo need a Midfoot fusion with bone graft as where i had been left walkin on the outside edge of my foot for 7 months!!, A bone had grinded one of the other bones completely so i needed a Midfoot fusion and a bone graft. -followed on in another review
