"My amazing experience giving birth!"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Maternity Care (Wards 21-24)

(as the patient),

I would just like to share my positive story about each and every single member off staff at wishaw general hospital who dealt with me when I was in labour and the after care I can not praise them enough! !

I had so many different midwifes dealing with me and each one was amazing! I had a long labour but they made my experience positive! I wish I could thank every single midwife personally, I'm terrible remembering names but the midwife that was with me at the end when I was trying to deliver my son and broke my waters was brilliant she was so professional and on the ball there was no messing about!

I remember one off the midwifes name was Amy and I'm sure she said she had 3 boys, she was soooo lovely to me and helped me a lot. She even gave me an idea for my sons middle name that I went on to use which was my partners first name!

I would like to thank Susan the head midwife she done nothing but look out for me and done what was best for me she was so great. She even came out her way to say goodbye before she finished for the week which was so lovely I really appreciated that.

I ended up getting a section in the end and obviously it's not nice being drugged up but each and every single person in theatre were so amazing and everyone spoke to me and made me feel at ease they are all just so brilliant in theatre! I wish I remembered this mans name but the man in theatre that was beside me was amazing, he talked me and my partner through step by step everything that was going on and made us feel sooooo at ease and assuring everything was normal and going ok! He even asked my partner if he had his phone which he never so then he went out his way to go to the room I was in when I was in labour to get his phone and took the most precious pictures I could ask for I am so thankful to this man! My partner was a nervous wreck when he seen what I was like in theatre and said he couldn't do it but the man ensured him he would be fine! I took a moonpig card into wishaw and wrote a note inside it and I just hope him and all the midwifes dealing with me seen the card because I really am so thankful off my experience!

Even the after care all the different midwifes popping in and out and helping me with my son as I couldn't move from the bed! And when they could see I wasn't sitting comfy or in pain they would fix my pillows etc the care was really just amazing, so much so I can't wait to come back again in future!

The woman who got me standing the next day and helped me to the shower had even cleaned my room and sorted out my suitcase and organised all my stuff for me!

I'm also considering looking into starting a career to be a midwife because I would love to make people feel the way I felt I am just so touched at my experience they just don't get enough credit they truly are amazing at what they do.

It is encouraging to read such positive feedback on the care you received whilst within the Maternity and Theatre Services.

I would like to thank you for taking the time to post on Patient Opinion especially as you will no doubt be kept very busy with your new baby.

Feedback is immensely helpful to us in relation to acknowledging and feeding back to staff when they have provided care to a high standard and not just when things don’t go so well, staff really do appreciate it as it provides positive encouragement to them to continue to do the best they can each and every day.

Thank you for taking the time to post and best wishes to you and your family.

Irene Barkby
