"Ward B7 Gynaecology Royal Gwent"

Thrilled with the service received in the Welsh system, the time between seeing he Consultant and being booked in for the procedure was weeks. I have to say my experience on the ward B7 was not so good. On my first night there I was looked after by Shabs the Nurse, she was fab, very thorough sympathetic and by god does this woman work hard! ! She explained procedures, took bloods and was friendly, polite and respectful throughout. The next day I had my procedure the anaesthetist was brilliant, he asked questions, explained what would happen, the team in the theatre were amazing too and were very thorough and treated me with dignity and respect throughout.

Was not so happy on day 2 of my stay. I was still very wonky and sore and I was literally turfed out of my bed. I was told my bed was needed, and that was "how it was". Of course I am aware of the pressures of the NHS, but I was told to leave my bed immediately without being discharged or receiving my medications as there was a woman outside needing the bed, she then proceeded to arrive with the laundry bag to strip the bed. I asked for some pain relief when I first awoke and was asked by one nurse how I was going to cope if discharged. I have to state I am tough, I'm a School Teacher of 21 years having only had a handful of days off throughout my teaching career. If I'm sore I'm sore. I felt thoroughly patronised.

I was fumbling about still in pyjamas, trying to pack my bag, I was asked if I needed help, to which I replied I would be fine. I was just a little sore. I drew the curtain to get dressed, the curtain then got drawn back asking if I needed help, literally a minute after the first time she had asked. She left the curtain open and stood outside it, so I asked for some privacy to dress, she then kept peeking round asking if I was ready.

I found this very disturbing and in my emotional state after an anaesthetic very unreasonable. I know that they are under pressure, and I was aware that I was to be discharged that day but the literally be turfed out of my bed with no meds yet from the pharmacy etc etc. Very unreasonable. I expect my dignity to be at least respected.

Overall aside of this Nurse I found the procedure and the Staff and Consultant to be amazing, they work hard under tough conditions. I just expect that everyone no matter what should be treated with dignity and respect.

I also need to thank the Nurse who was part of the Emergency Gynae Team who dealt with me when I was tearful after this experience. She was fantastic and took time to talk to me and find me somewhere to sit until my partner could collect me. You have no idea just how much you helped me.
