"70 days and still no appointment"

On 6 March my GP sent a referral letter to request an orthopaedic consultant look at a 'trigger finger' and ganglion which was causing extreme discomfort. According to the information on this website the average wait time for a first appointment is 30 days. Despite four telephone calls to the consultant's secretary who is never available, and leaving message after message without response, 70 days have gone by and still no appointment in sight. The answerphone message assures one that if a message is left your call will be returned - it isn't. Even after speaking to another secretary, who was able to see the referral letter sent by my GP, and assurances that they would ask someone to contact me there has still been no contact. It may all be in a days work for admin staff at the hospital but being treated like a human being and not just 'another appointment in the system' would make a considerable difference to the quality of service provided. I have not visited the hospital regarding this issue but have entered the date as March 2015 in order to post this review.
