"Day surgery on 6/5/15"

About: Royal Shrewsbury Hospital

I was booked in for Gallbladder removal and it was cancelled twice. This was the third Appointment I was given on 6/5/15. I was impressed with the care from start to finish. All the staff introduced themselves to me as did the anaesthetist and the surgeon.Unfortunately I was last on the list which meant a wait of 3.5 hours. The staff did keep popping to see me to make sure I was ok.Surgery over and I was given coffee and sandwiches before being discharged.Five star service. Much is made of the same sex accommodation however I would point out that on the day I was here nearly all the ladies took their partners in the unit with them. This meant that my privacy was compromised totally.Any conversations I had with nurses were overheard by half a dozen men sat inches away with only a curtain between us.They were allowed to stay until their partners went down to theatre and then they remained sitting by the beds for several hours.I really didn't like that and also felt it was a security issue. When I went down to theatre I left my bag unattended ,unable to lock it away with half a dozen strangers loitering on the ward.Whilst we don't take items of great value into hospital we all have a mobile phone etc.Really don't think it's appropriate for partners to be allowed on until after surgery. Nursing care was fab on this day surgery unit though.
