I was admitted to hospital just before Christmas with severe abdominal pain. During my stay at the Borders General Hospital, I was spoken to with contempt by ward staff and treated as though I was pretending to be ill. It was even suggested to me at one point that my pain was psychological.
I was taken down for an endoscopy which I was sedated for. On returning from my endoscopy, still recovering from the sedation, the porter felt it acceptable to put his number in my hand and ask me to call him. I was then discharged and told no further investigation would be carried out. I was effectively abandoned.
I was readmitted 2 months later to find I was still being treated with contempt and one nurse even suggested I was there to get painkillers. Still not able to find the cause of my pain I was discharged again and asked to return for a HIDA scan. I waited 3 weeks for an appointment for this scan and 2 weeks later I am still waiting for the results due to nobody having even read the result yet.
I think its fair to say that after 6 weeks of horrendous pain and no further help being offered, the nhs service is going downhill.
