My mum had to be taken from the home that she lives in after falling and breaking her collar bone. I was called and went with her in the ambulance and first of all cannot praise the ambulance staff enough for their care and consideration as mum having Dementia she doesn't understand what is being done to her or said. The staff in A&E were brilliant and although we had to wait an hour and half to be seen by a doctor we were reassured while we waited that we would be seen soon. The nurse was very very good with mum taking their time to talk to mum and I and reassure us all the time, they seemed to have a good understanding of Dementia and the need to take time and explain what and why they were doing things. Cant praise them enough! The doctor was brilliant and also took time to make sure we were both happy with things and understood what was happening. The radiographer was amazing, they were so good with mum, even putting on the protective gown so that she could be with mum and reassure her that all was okay and not be frightened. They had a lovely warm smile the whole time that relaxed mum and made her smile back. Cant praise them enough! We then saw a nurse who put mums arm in a sling (not that she has kept that on)! They were also very good with mum and seemed to understand Dementia. The nurse explained everything and made sure we understood everything.
