"Elderly patient in question had ..."

About: Epsom Hospital

(as the patient),

What could be improved

Elderly patient in question had four seizures and a heart attack prior to being brought to A&E. Patient had to wait four and a half hours although very few other patients were there, until he was transferred to a bed. Both doctors spoke poor english. Poor communication re progress.

CAU Ward: Floor sticky underfoot. Table and bedside table sticky and not cleaned until relatives did so. Poor communication . Pureed meal supplied looked awful, it was dumped on the table without any words or greeting of any kind, and the the foil was left on it alhtough the patient had severely impaired motor function. Nurses twice threw vomit away in the bin right next to the bed despite being asked not to by a relative.

I have absolutely no doubt that you won't publish this comment, but I shall be making a formal complaint in any case.

Thank you for your comment. It is certainly unacceptable for a patient and their relatives to experience the service that you have described.

The Trust would want to investigate this fully as we take these claims very seriously. As we need more specific information on the patient and the dates when they were in hospital; I would ask you to contact Lesley Scott - Patient Advice and Liaison Service Manager on 020 8296 2508 or email lesley.scott@esth.nhs.uk.
