"Trip to the doctors and then to the emergency department"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

Just want to say that I received excellent care and treatment recently from my local health centre (StThomas, Exeter) and the Emergency Department at the RD&E, Exeter.

I was experiencing an increasingly sore throat and even though the NHS Choices website suggested not going to the doctor's about it as this sort of problem usually cleared up by itself in 7 day, by day 4 I had difficulty swalloing and breathing and generally felt unwell.

My health centre was great, the receptionist and GP were both helpful and respectful. They have a same day illness clinic and I was seen straightaway. After examination arrangements were made for me to go the the Emergency Department at the RD&E to be seen by an ENT specialist. The GP was great, he spent time explaining things to me and even got a second opinion.

The ED receptionist was efficient and polite. I was triaged and seen very quickly and a diagnosis and treatment given immediately with follow up appointments. The triage nurse and ENT SHO were excellent, particularly the SHO who was very understanding, explained everything and gave me options.

Obviously this had a positive outcome for me, but I think praise where praise is due and the health system worked really well for me on this occasion, with all staff being helpful, friendly, efficient and polite. I am very grateful.

Thank you
