We had our baby in January and were really impressed with the service we received. The staff were caring and attentive but realistic and honest at the same time. All of the midwives were rushed off their feet and despite the department being clearly understaffed, all those we encountered were professional and friendly. One midwife was with us for nearly all of my labour, they had read up on my birth plan and made every effort to ensure we stuck to it, but suggested alternatives to make me more comfortable when dehydrated and exhausted, this meant that in the end I could still have the water birth I had hoped for and our baby had a wonderful, calm entry to the World. Another midwife delivered our baby and despite the change of shift toward the end of labour the changeover was seamless and I felt completely comfortable. Again the birth plan was followed immediately after the birth which makes me feel we gave our baby the very best right from the start. The midwife picked up on our baby's tongue tie straight away and was quick to get me breastfeeding with helpful advice and techniques, thankfully this meant a good latch was established despite a quite severe tongue tie. There was an issue with beds at the time due to some work being done but we were kept in the loop at all times and asked if we were happy leaving that day (over 12 hours after birth). We were happy to be given the option and felt comfortable in going. With another change of shift the first midwife popped back to see how we were, showing how much they care for all mums and babies. We were truly honoured to have our baby at Kingston, I was born there in 1981 and my mum was equally impressed with the service she received. Thank you so much!
