What I liked
I attended an outpatient clinic with the doctor. Whilst with him and 3 students to whose presence I was happy with. (They are ouir future doctors).
An unusually low pulse rate was confirmed.
My same day admittance to the Coronary care unit was arranged and the necessary tests and cover implemented.
What could be improved
It all worked well. All the peole I met were competent, pleasant, and helpful.
Anything else?
I was admitted to the C.C.U. late afternoon. the nurse found me something to eat etc, I was apprenhensive upon arrival. Quickly I was aware of a competent team. If I had been paying big private treatment money, my care and treatment could not have been better. OK the 5 bed ward is not a room in the Ritz hotel. However it was very clean. What particularly impressed me was that surfaces were being wiped with antiseptic by the nursing and other staff as a matterr of routine. i.e. the drive to minimise the risk of acquiring MRSA and / or other bugs was very apparent by all I met.
I was given a very helpful little leaflet informing me of who ran and how the CCU worksetc.
After my discharge after my pulse rate returned to nearer normal the next day and I was discharged.
When I telephoned to find out the exact follow up details etc. the Sister in charge answered the phone. I had not met her whilst in the unit, However she knew about my visit and what had happened. I agreed to call back to apeak to the Ward Clerk, for the details the next morning, Upon answering the call, she informed me that the sister had informed of my first call and was expecting my call. The ward clerk kindly agreed to ring me back with details of follow up appointments she had arranged for me with both Consultants concerned with my case. I was called back within 1 hour.
Overall my visit to the hospital was an excellent example of teams working very well together,
NHS often is complained about and critcised. I am very pleased to give praise and my thanks which are very much due to them all.
Thank you.
