"Stood around for 20 mins"

About: Grantham & District Hospital

I had called 111 and was advised to take my daughter 20 miles to our nearest A & E department. When we got there, there were patients sat waiting in the waiting room but no sign of a nurse or any NHS staff we waited 20 mins and still no sign; that is poor, but I suppose if you don't book us in we don't become one of your figures. There were not that many people in the waiting room I have seen Newark busier when it had an A & E, so its a good job the place wasn't busy! Friday night @10pm ridiculous!

Dear anon

I can only apologise for this, unfortunately we have had to cover unplanned absence at the reception desk. When covering the reception staff it is often not covered past 9pm at night and the nursing staff answer the bell. There is a notice at the front desk to ring a bell. The bell is a mobile chime nurses put it in the clinical area. If they are busy with patients the answering of the bell will be delayed. We do however hope to have concrete plans for single entrance and therefore at night our reception desk will be staffed with out of hours reception staff. Please accept my apologies but be reassured we are aware this is a problem and the building work for a single door will be happening soon.
