I have had two recent experiences and they are poles apart! I was ill last spring and had a horrendous time trying to go see a doctor @ the Lerwick health centre. The receptionist had the awful job of dealing with an inefficient system + sick patients. Trying to get medical care was a stressful situation and was unacceptable, adding stress to stress and making a difficult situation worse. When I did see someone, even though that Dr wanted consistency, trying to achieve that when making on-going appointments, meant you had to consent yourself @ the appointment booking stage. Again an unpleasant experience, particularly when unwell.

Unfortunately my illness reared its ugly head again this spring! However the new system with the 5 ANT nurses has transformed the clinic! It has completely taken the stress out of “getting to see someone” When you really need to. What a difference! Although all the nurses I have seen have been first class, further improvement could be made to ensure consistency. For example: I have seen 6 different individuals in 3 appointment (including Drs. ) I asked to see the same nurses again but this was refused – you need to impose consistency although, with what existed before, comparatively speaking, so much better
