"Discharge process is appaling"

About: Leicester General Hospital

We have a member of our family who has been told two days ago that she would be discharged the following day now we are here waiting for her to be discharged today and the lack of communication is incredible. It is Saturday 2:30pm and the doctors have still not been to see the patient and nobody seems able to give us an answer to when they will come to the ward. We have to make arrangements to collect the patient and I have been ringing every hour to find out what is happening and nobody knows. When I called ward 22 this morning I was told the patient was not in that ward. Don't they know their own patients? She is now distressed and as a family we are all distressed here. Disgraceful!

Dear reviewer, Unfortunately, this comment has only just been moderated to appear on the NHS Choices website so this is our first opportunity to reply. We are really sorry to hear about the frustrations you and your relative have faced whilst on our ward whilst trying to arrange discharge. We hope that by now, the issues you mention have been resolved directly with the ward staff and your relative has been discharged, however if you would like to discuss in more detail, ward sister Julie will be more than happy to run through things with you and update you on our processes and what caused the delays here. She can be contacted at julie.judd@uhl-tr.nhs.uk. Best wishes Communications Team Leicester’s Hospitals
