"Great staff- shame about the car park"

About: Dorset County Hospital

I went to the Woman's health department today and whilst I was waiting a little while i really don't mind. The specialist I saw clearly had read my notes before i arrived and was very reassuring. I am continuing treatment but after 10 years I finally feel like somebody is listening to me! However i am less than impressed with the lack of car parking at DCH. I have had to go here over the years for myself and to visit sick relatives. It really makes me angry that we have to pay a small fortune if we are lucky enough to get a space. I know that the last thing on my mind when visiting my sick granddad was whether I had enough change. Today however the fact I drove round all the car parks twice only to then have to park at a car park half a mile away was really infuriating. Yes I can walk but a hospital should not be forcing people to pay elsewhere when they are more stressed about being ill or having an ill family member. This issue is not a new one and I really hope that you start investing the money you e from the lucky few parkers into making more space or better transport services for the rest of us.

Thank you for sharing your recent experiences at the women’s health department with the trust. I am pleased to read that your recent consultation went well and that you felt reassured about the treatment you are receiving. I am truly sorry to read you have had such a difficult time finding a parking space on your visits to the hospital. You will already know that parking can be a real challenge at specific times of the day and we have set up a travel working group to look at how we can find better solutions to meet the needs of patients, visitors and our staff. The group has representation from the council as well as trust staff and public representatives and we anticipate they will agree a number of solutions to improve the parking situation. If you would like any more information about the group, the work that they are doing or would be interested in joining the group to influence the plans I would be very interested to hear from you. I would be grateful if you could contact our PALS service on 0800 7838058 or pals@dchft.nhs.uk if you are interested in hearing more about parking and they will provide your details to the director leading this work. Thank you once again for sharing your feedback, it is much appreciated. Best wishes, Alison Tong, Director of Nursing, Dorset County Hospital
