I was asked to attend The treatment Centre at 10.45am for an appointment at 11.00am in Ophthalmology. I arrived on time, was booked in and asked to wait. I waited for 2 and threequarter hours until I was called.in to see the consultant. I did not complain in that time as I work in Local Government and know that sometimes there are events beyond the operatives control that happen. I was told that I should have had drops in the eye to dilate the pupil. I thought that I was going to have to wait again, but the Consultant continued after placing liquid of some sort into my eye. I was given a prescription and left the consulting room and I think it had been approximately 10 minutes in all. I asked a nurse on the way out if there had been a reason for the delay and they informed me that the consultant was just slow. Why are their appointments not given extra time in that event? Is my time less precious than theirs? There were people who were due back at work and were put under tremendous pressure whilst just sitting and waiting with no explanation for the delay. I would have been happy if I had been given a later appointment but was able to be seen as arranged. Discontent is caused by this kind of inefficiency. I love the NHS and have been well served by it over the years but this was an example to me of why a lot of people do complain.
