"Disabled wheelchair spaces and car park staff"

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital

(as a service user),

Today tried to park in car park. no disabled spaces so parked in parent and child. didnt like to but when in a wheelchair I need the space to get in and out. Took the disc to office and was told not in a disabled space have to pay.

When I was leaving dropped the disc at the barrier reversed to see where disc had rolled my mother got out to get it when a voice came over the barrier intercom that we shouldnt get out at the barrier and was told we could be fined.

When employing people to interact with the public Blackpool Vic should look for more civil and courteous staff as most people visiting are going through a hard time and are stressed enough.

Hi Ras

I am truly sorry to read you have had such a difficult time finding a parking space on your visit to the hospital. Blackpool Victoria Hospital now has up to 80 disabled car parking services with the new multi-story car park, but clearly parking in these spaces can be a real challenge at specific times of the day and I will be liaising with the car parking manager to look at how we can find better solutions to meet the needs of our patients and visitors.

I am sorry and disappointed that you found our car parking staff unwelcoming and unhelpful. This is not the standard we would expect. I will ensure their Supervisor is made aware of your concerns immediately.

I’d be grateful if you could contact a member of my team directly on 01253 955588 so that we can ensure we learn from this incident. I do assure you this will be dealt with in the strictest confidence.

Thank you once again for leaving feedback.

Yours sincerely

Eleanor Walsh
