"Data Protection issues"

About: Leicestershire and Lincolnshire

(as the patient),

This Surgery kept a relative's mobile number on file without my permission and sent a Text "reminding ME" of an appointment.

Due to my concerns about personal information and Data Protection, I wondered if my request for "opting Out" in 2012 was taken seriously. To date, it is still unclear if this is the case.

I put in a complaint re: the 2 issues above and also requested a copy of all my medical records, paying the requested £50.

Interestingly, the records appeared just 4 working days after the payment was received, with the mobile number still on file. There were so many errors held in the records.

However, no reply has been made regarding the Data Protection issues. in the time frame set by the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). A complaint is now with the ICO. .

* not keeping my information secure.

* holds inaccurate information about me (not my number ).

* disclosed information about me: re appointment.

* keeping information longer than necessary, without my permission.

* collected information for one reason but using it for something else.

Update posted by Female (the patient)

After 2 1/2 years here's my Feedback:-

Since this Data Protection error was reported to the ICO that resulted in a clerical change in their admin Procedures, (that is to receive a Patient's signature if they wanted to add a Mobile number that is not theirs) albeit the Manager still didn't delete the mobile number when my £50 records turned up. Although they sent a written apology, explaining they had tried to delete (why they did not check afterwards and BEFORE I had my records is disgusting, no action was taken to this Manager).

The mobile number (not mine) was previously given to them when they rang but NOT to keep it on my records, so future text were sent to this mobile, without my permission - I had chosen not to give them my mobile number.

Something had to change, after 15+ years - so changed GP surgery - WOW there is such a contrast! I'm very pleased with this Surgery (albeit nowadays it's a little more difficult to get an appointment, which seems to be a wide-spread problem ) - but the Doctors are listening, caring, thorough & do appropriate referrals when necessary,

so different from the old Surgery.

Sometimes, at current Surgery, patients maybe kept waiting but I see that as good as they probably go over the 10 minutes allocated for each patient - whereas the old Surgery I was seen bang on time, rudely shunted out the door after 7 minutes in order for them to write up in the remaining 3 minutes.
