"Issues with Aspergers diagnosis at GP"

About: Leicestershire and Lincolnshire

(as the patient),

3 times for my request for assessment for Aspergers Syndrome, as the Aspergers Clinic prefers to also interview parents to assist in the assessment - my father has died; my elderly mother is failing in health and no other relatives readily available.

There is limited time left for this assessment.

Due to my Communication skills, albeit this GP was my named registered GP for 10+ years, I have seen on just 2 occasions, October 2014 & January 2015 (totalling no more than 14 minutes). Both times point blank refusal (with 1 other GP refusal). .

I passed over a list of my physical conditions (to be discussed in another topic) and very detailed medical report from a NHS Adolescent Unit in the 1970's, showing Aspergers traits and it is a Life Long Condition. Both papers were flung back at me in a very aggressive dismissive way, asking me sarcastically if I had seen a doctor since that date, then asked me why I thought I have Aspergers. After my reply, the GP stated that I have not got it as Aspergers are excellent planners & have problems with their speech and made a reference to a medical psych condition dating back to 2007 (although as this GP puts it, I have seen an other doctor- psychologist - since then in 2009). This 2007 Psychiatric condition, is under scrutiny due to the circumstances at the time, as a proper Psychiatric Assessment did not take place.

The GP claimed to know a number of people (males & females) with Aspergers. , who are excellent planners and have problems with their speech.

I am very concerned. Within the Surgery and Students are trained (as Surgery also a training centre) who will be informed incorrect information regarding Aspergers Syndrome.

A week later, I expressed some of my concerns, including this GP does not have an in depth knowledge of Aspergers and how it AFFECTS the patients, especially middle aged females. After I pointed out my concerns, they recommended a Psychiatric Assessment to be carried out. However, to date, no action has been taken.

A more detailed complaint will be made to the appropriate Authorities.

There are further issues with this Surgery, which may be covered in another topic at a later date.
