"Functional neurological disorder"

About: St Helier Hospital / Neurology

(as the patient),

It all started 5years ago I collapsed and had a fit it lasted 4 hours the hospital didn't know what was wrong so sent me home.

2 years later I thought I had a stroke my gp sent me to hospital had a brain scan it showed some scarring but was not a stroke. Was again sent home.

Over the next week I was taken to hospital by ambulance 5 times with tremors, was unable to speak and severe confusion. on each occasion I was sent home as they couldn't find anything wrong. On the last time a doctor made me an appointment with a neurologist, I attempted to walk into his office and he diagnosed me with functional neurological disorder and functional weakness.

I was sent to see a psychiatrist but found it didn't work for me. I no longer have bad tremors but have lots of other unexplained things happening to me. I. e. Sight loss, excruciating pain that makes it very difficult to walk, unable to communicate with confidence and non epileptic seizures.
