"Linda McCartney Unit is simply the best of NHS"

About: The Royal Liverpool University Hospital

Some seven weeks ago I was recalled from a mammogram and a lump was found in my breast. I was shocked, but the radiographer and nurse were so lovely and reassuring which helped so much. On my second visit I saw a consultant and met my key nurse who very carefully explained what would happen next. I have a problem with lifts, haven't used one for 25 years because of feeling closed in and trapped, this was a problem as the ward I would be put on was on 9th floor. Also there is an amazing system in place for patients whereby one goes onto the ward at 7am, there you see your consultant etc. and have to go down to ground floor to two other departments, back up to ward, have operation and usually go home same day, or following morning. Because of my lift problem it would mean me walking up 9 floors twice on the day of the operation. To save me doing this they changed the whole system to suit me. At the Royal the patient's peace of mind really is of the utmost importance. Prior to going into hospital for my operation I received a letter explaining everything I needed to know and found the name of my consultant surgeon. I can only say my consultant must have been specially picked for me, what an amazing person, and best of all they have a sense of humour!! I felt very safe in their capable hands and they didn't disappoint at all. The operation went really well, I didn't need the dressings changed before my two week follow-up appointment and the wounds healed very very quickly. I have had a further appointment today to discuss what happens next, and I really do believe that only the very best is good enough for any patient at the Royal. I wouldn't want to go anywhere else should I need medical treatment for anything in the future, the Royal Hospital will always be my first choice and I will recommend it to family and friends. Between the staff I have been wonderfully and calmly brought through what could have been a frightening and traumatic time, and I will be forever grateful for this. So thank you all at the Royal Liverpool Hospital, you are a great team and anyone who finds themselves referred there can be sure they will be in the best place in this country.
